Singapore-based SMOE has awarded a Letter of Intent for the delivery of the living quarters for the Ivar Aasen platform to Apply. Det norske is the operator of the Ivar Aasen field.

The project will be carried out by Apply’s business area LQ & Helidecks. The seven-floor living quarters has a total area of 3 300 m2, a capacity of 70 single cabins, recreation areas, changing rooms, control room, helicopter deck and all other facilities required for operation of an offshore hotel.

The living quarters will be built in aluminium. Engineering work will commence immediately and the delivery is planned for the second quarter of 2016. The value of the contract is estimated at NOK 450 million. The living quarters will be engineered and assembled at Apply Leirvik, located at Stord.

Sr. VP Projects of Det norske, Bård Atle Hovd, is very pleased with the award of the contract to Apply Leirvik: "In competition with foreign bidders, we are delighted that the contract was awarded to a Norwegian contractor with special expertise in aluminium. This shows that Norwegian contractors are competitive. The best contractor has been selected on the basis of an overall assessment of price and quality."

Managing Director Lars Solberg of Apply Leirvik says that this award serves to motivate the company: "We are honoured that SMOE and Det norske have selected Apply for delivery of the Ivar Aasen living quarters. SMOE is a new customer, and we are proud to be part of the first major field development operated by Det Norske. This motivates us to succeed with the delivery."

Apply LQ & Helidecks is presently also engaged in the delivery of living quarters to the Hebron field development in Canada, the Eldfisk 2/7 S, the Edvard Grieg, the Martin Linge and the Gina Krog fields on the Norwegian Continental shelf.

The Apply Group is a leading supplier of services and technology products to the international oil and gas industry. The group has an annual turnover of approximately NOK 3 billion. The group has around 2 000 employees. HitecVision and the investment company Køhlergruppen are majority owners in Apply AS.
