HSM bags Borssele Alpha transformer platform contract

Dutch fabricator HSM Offshore has won a contract to construct the offshore transformer station for the huge 700 MW Borssele Alpha project offshore the Netherlands.

HSM also has an option for the contract to build a transformer station for the 700 MW Borssele Beta project.

The Borssele Alpha transformer station, including jacket and piles, will weigh about 8000-ton and the deck will be about 58-long, 32m-wide and 26m-high.

HSM Offshore, part of the ANDUS group, will take on the engineering, procurement, construction, transport, installation, connection and testing of the offshore transformer station under an engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract.

Iv-Oil & Gas will be responsible for the design, engineering and procurement support, including the integration of the Tennet free issued High Voltage components and the balance of plant materials. The platform is due to handed over during the summer of 2019. HSM and Iv-Oil & Gas have subcontracted the High Voltage control integration to the specialist company Joulz.

Denmark's DONG Energy won the concession to build Borssele 1 and 2 last year.

Dutch offshore grid operator, TenneT, is responsible for construction, operation and ownership of the substations and the export cable.

The first-ever offshore transformer station was delivered by HSM in 2002, for the Danish Horns Rev A project, for which Iv-Oil & Gas also provided the technical support, which is also the case for the 450 MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore transformer station, which is currently under construction in the yard of HSM.
