Det norske oljeselskap has spudded exploration well 2/9–5 S in production license 494, in the Norwegian North Sea, targeting the Heimdalshø prospect using the Maersk Giant jackup rig.
The well spudded 21 July, said Fortis Petroleum, a partner on the project. Det norske oljeselskap is operator with 30% interest. The partners are Dana Petroleum Norway (24%), Bridge Energy Norge (30%), amd Fortis Petroleum Norway (16%).
Michael Haagaard, Chief Executive Office of Fortis said: "The well marks Fortis’s first exploration well and is the first of three wells we expect to drill in 2014. We believe that a great deal of value remains to be extracted from the Norwegian Continental Shelf and that the application of leading edge technology, combined with the financial strength of Fortis’s majority owner, The Seacrest Group, will enable the company to maximise the value creation opportunities in the region."
Fortis currently holds working interest positions in 19 exploration licences across offshore Norway, including the Central and Viking Grabens, the Stord Basin, and the Nordland Ridge.
