The naming ceremony for four DSME semisubmersibles was held in H quay on 24 October. The rigs, hull numbers 3031, 3032, 3034, and 3035, were ordered by Norway’s Songa Offshore Company to be operated by Statoil.

Around 290 guests attended the naming ceremony, including Frederik W. Mohn, chairman of the board of directors for Songa Offshore SE; Bjørnar Iversen, CEO for Songa Offshore; and Jaeho Ko, president and CEO of DSME.

Ekaterina Mohn, Beate Myking, Marjoleine Boogers, and Karin Hansson were on-hand to name each rig as: Songa Equinox, Songa Endurance, Songa Encourage, and Songa Enabler.

DSME and Songa Offshore signed these contracts on two separate occasions in September 2011 and again in May 2012. These semisubmersible rigs can drill to a maximum of 8500m in water up to 500m in depth and operate in the the harsh North Sea environment. These Category-D rigs are new-generation drilling and well intervention rigs specifically constructed for Norwegian Continental Shelf operations. They are outfitted with winterization and heat-tracing systems.

These rigs are classed DNV DYNPOS – ER,  a stricter regulation when compared to a generalized positioning system such as the dynamic positioning system. Following delivery, these four rigs will commence drilling work off the Norwegian coast and in the North Sea.
