Morgan Advanced Materials launches new sensors

Published

Morgan Advanced Materials has launched a new range of sensors for the oil and gas extraction sector, harnessing the unique capabilities of its proprietary piezoelectric materials which can provide sensing and monitoring in high-temperature environments above 200ºC.

Suitable for applications from custody transfer to gas flow monitoring, the sensors from Morgan’s technical ceramics business draw on the proven properties of lead zirconate titanate (PZT).

Made from a selection of inert materials including titanium, alumina and zirconia, the new Morgan sensors have corrosion resistance, which is particularly useful in harsh environments.

The sensors have a compact footprint, are capable of measuring both high and low flow, and can cope with potential pressure drops due to their ultrasonic nature.

“Accurate sensing is key in the oil and gas sector for cost, environmental and safety reasons, but the high-temperature and highly corrosive environments present a unique set of challenges for sensors,” said Charles Dowling of Morgan Advanced Materials. “Our piezoelectric materials have been proven to withstand continuous use at up to 250ºC with an intermittent maximum of 300ºC. When their compact size and conductivity are also taken into account, they represent an attractive option for both custody transfer and flaring applications.”

Morgan Advanced Materials is a global materials engineering company which designs and manufactures a wide range of high specification products.
