Encouraging GoM result for Byron Energy

Byron Energy's SM-6 #2 well in the South Marsh Island Block 6 in the US Gulf of Mexico has intersected a number of hydrocarbon bearing sands which may result in an increase in reserves estimates for the block, says partner Otto Energy.

Otto said drilling to the intermediate casing point at 7837ft (2389m) measured depth or 7684ft (2343m) true vertical depth had completed, with results from a number of F sand intervals which were "consistent with or better than those seen in offset wells."

This includes 10ft of net hydrocarbon saturated sands in the F20 sand, 32ft in the F30 sand, and 60ft in the F40 sand.

The results will be incorporated into updated reserve information post drilling operations. Current operations at the SM-6 #2 well are preparing to run the 9 ⅝in casing before drilling ahead into the primary G20 target sand interval.

Otto’s Managing Director, Matthew Allen said: “Otto is very pleased with the operational progress that has been made at the SM-6#2 well by the operator and contractors. The well remains on target to be completed with the pre-drill estimated timing of 40 days. The results from the recently completed section of the well are very encouraging and support Otto’s decision to invest in the Gulf of Mexico.

"Otto looks forward to completing the drilling at SM-6 #2 with the primary target interval to be drilled in the coming section of the well.”
