Royal IHC, Frames to develop compact separation

Dutch firms Frames Group and Royal IHC have signed a joint development agreement to collaborate on the development of a compact subsea separator module.

Royal IHC has experience in the design and supply of various subsea structures, equipment and modules, while Frames Separation Technologies has experience in the design and supply of separation systems and solutions.

Recently, Frames extended its portfolio with a new compact controllable inline separator: the SwirlSep. Based on this technology, Frames Separation Technologies and Royal IHC started a collaboration to develop a Subsea SwirlSep Module.

The firms say SwirlSep is highly suitable as subsea technology, since it is compact, controllable, efficient and significantly lower in weight compared to other separation technologies. The two firms foresee a major reduction of costs for subsea separation modules.

Erik Brink, Business Development Manager Frames, says: “Combining our strengths, we are able to develop an innovative solution in order to have an alternative for todays ‘large and heavy’ subsea separation modules.

Andy Eaton, Director IHC Concept, says: “This new technology has tremendous potential for application in various subsea processes.”
