Woodside's Persephone due onstream

Woodside Energy's Persephone project is set for start-up in August 2017, 30% under budget and six months ahead of schedule, the firm said this morning (20 July).

The Persephone Project consists of two big bore deviated productions wells tied into a subsea production manifold with production fluids tied back 6.7km via a 12in. flexible flowline to the existing North Rankin A facility on the existing North Rankin Complex (NRC). 

The field is 135km north-west of Karatha, western Australian, in production license WA-1-L. The field was discovered in 2006, by the exploration well Persephone-1, which was about 8km north-west of the North Rankin Complex. 

Subsea 7 won a contract for the fabrication, transportation, installation and pre-commissioning activities within the principal scope of work, with additional deconstruction and pipeline suspension work in the Echo Yodel field at the Goodwyn Alpha platform.

Meanwhile, in Myanmar, Woodside has been acquiring additional acreage. The firm if farming in to Blocks AD-1, AD-6 and AD-8, all close to its Thalin discovery wells, and surrounding the producing Shwee platform facilities. The deal, with China's CNPC, is subject to conditions. 

The firm recently spudded the Pyi Thit-1 exploration well in block A-6 in early June and operations are continuing. The well is targeting a similar play type as the Shwe Yee Htun discovery. A further two exploration wells are scheduled to spud in Myanmar in Q3 2017.

In Australia, the Swell well is scheduled to spud in Q3 2017. The exploration well will be in WA-483-P, offshore Exmouth, Western Australia.  The field is 135km north-west of Karatha, western Australian, in production license WA-1-L.
