The award, which recognizes technical innovation in well intervention and coiled tube technology, was presented during the SPE ICoTA European Well Intervention Conference taking place in Aberdeen on 11 and 12 November.

E Plug’s new TorcPlug is a single run, multiple set and release plug technology that enables a plug to be set and repositioned or reset multiple times as opposed to conventional bridge plugs. The TorcPlug, which is run on an e-line with an Electrical Manipulation Tool (EMT), will reduce operational risk and help operators save substantial operational time without compromising safety.

Developed by E Plug with technical support from Statoil and Welltec, and with additional support from E Innovation, Innovation Norway and the Research Council of Norway it went into commercial use Offshore Norway in August 2015.

“The technology has the potential to bring significant benefits to the industry in its well intervention and coiled tubing operations while addressing two of the sector’s biggest challenges of reducing cost and improving operational safety,” Scott Mitchell, chair of the European Chapter of ICoTA said.“E Plug is one of a number of companies operating in this region which have developed world-leading technologies which bring real benefits to the industry and this award raises awareness of their work and acknowledges some of their achievements.”

The other finalists for this year’s award were CapWell AS and Interwell. CapWell was shortlisted for its development of Capline, a new way to reduce the complexity of well interventions to make them more efficient. Interwell, a previous winner of the award has developed a wireless Barrier Verification System (BVS) to meet the demand for barrier plug integrity assurance.
