Houston-based McDermott International won a contract to provide transportation and installation services to Walter Oil & Gas Corp. for the Megalodon platform in South Timbalier Block 311 in the Gulf of Mexico.

McDermott will provide all materials and equipment to transport and install the six-pile platform in 391ft of water, over an existing well site. The heavy-lift Derrick Barge 50 will perform a side-lift of the 3300ton jacket and set the 2100ton topsides. McDermott’s DB50 is dynamically positioned, premier heavy-left, deepwater lowering and pipelay vessel.

Installation is expected to commence in 4Q 2014.

McDermott recently completed the Ayatsil-B, one of Pemex’s four drilling platforms for use in the Mexican national’s Ayatsil-Tekel heavy oil field.
