Ayatsil-B substructure floats out from McDermott yardOn May 22, Pemex announced that the substructure of the Ayatsil B platform was floated out from McDermott International’s Altamira yard in Mexico's Tamaulipas state.

Two years ago, McDermott announced that it received the contract for the new Ayatsil B drilling platform (May 2012). The company provided engineering, procurement, fabrication, pre-commissioning, load-out and sea fastening of the Ayatsil-B eight-leg jacket and deck, weighing about 11,650 tonnes, in water 377ft (115m) deep.

McDermott was also contracted to perform transportation and installation analysis of the structures, and to train Pemex personnel for the facility operation and maintenance. At peak, McDermott projected that more than 500 personnel would be engaged on the project.

The platform is one of four that will be used, along with an FPSO, to develop heavy oil from the Ayatsil field in the Bay of Campeche.
