Some NOK1 million has been spent on Statoil's Gina Krog development every hour of this year.

Statoil has provided a video update on the project's progress.

Gina Krog is about 30km northwest of Sleipner. The field, previously called Dagny, was originally a minor gas discovery just north of Sleipner. It has been considered for development on a number of occasions since it was discovered in 1974.

When oil and gas were proven in the neighboring structure Gina Krog Øst (previously Dagny) in 2007, the Gina Krog landscape was reviewed and, following further appraisal in 2008-11, a contact was determined between Gina Krog and Gina Krog Øst, confirming substantial volumes of oil under the entire structure.

The development of Gina Krog will be among Statoil's major new developments with an estimated 225 MMboe.

A plan for development and operation (PDO) was submitted in December 2012. It comprises a platform, with wells drilled using a mobile jackup drilling rig. Liquids will be transported via a tanker, and the gas via the nearby Sleipner field facilities.

The platform's 17,000-tonne steel jacket was installed on 11 June this year, followed by a pre-drilling module.

Drilling on the first development well started on 20 July this year using the newbuild Maersk Integrator jackup.

The platform will be tied in to the Sleipner field in the North Sea and the plan is to start production in 2017. In this movie you can see some of the highlights from 2015.
