The largest oil platform to be constructed in Mexico in the last decade has left McDermott International's fabrication yard in Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
The 15,000-metric-ton PB-Abkatun-A2 platform is scheduled to be installed for PEMEX in November 2018 in Mexico's Bay of Campeche in 38 meters of water. McDermott said its Amazon, DB50 and Intermac 650 vessels will be involved in the installation works.
The platform is rated to produce 220,000 barrels of oil per day and 150 million of standard cubic feet of gas per day, and will provide replacement and expansion capabilities to the existing Abkatun Pol Chuc facilities.
McDermott said the PB-Abkatun-A2 platform is its largest project in size and total value to date for PEMEX, and noted the giant three-level topside is the largest ever to be fabricated at the company's Altamira facility.
McDermott was awarded the $454 million engineering, procurement, construction and installation and commissioning (EPCIC) project in June 2016. As exclusive contractor for this project, its work scope spanned from the basic engineering design to tie-in and commissioning of the jacket, deck, four tripod jackets, and four bridges measuring about 100 meters each.
Two tripods will be used as part of the flare system while the other two tripods support the two bridges to interconnect PB-Abkatun-A2 with the existing PEMEX production complex.
