Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering NV (DEME) offshore unit said that its ‘Sea Challenger’ and crew completed the installation of 174 SWT-7.0 MW turbines on Hornsea One, the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
The global solutions provider in the offshore oil, gas and renewables industry quoted Michael Glavind, Business Unit Director at DEME Offshore in a press note saying that: “I am very proud to announce that DEME Offshore’s ‘Sea Challenger’ and crew, together with our client and colleagues from Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Fred. Olsen Wind Carrier have now finalised the installation of the turbines at the Hornsea One offshore wind farm."
"I would like to extend a special thanks and congratulations to the entire team behind the operation for an outstanding safety performance as well as a smooth project execution,” he added.
On board the vessel, Master Jack Amtsbiller is also very pleased with the project. “Being part of building the world’s largest wind farm has been a great experience for us. We started on the project in February 2019 and installed the last turbine on 3 October 2019. The construction of Hornsea One is another step towards a greener future, not only for us, but also for the next generations. It has been a pleasure to work closely together with Ørsted and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. We have been working as one close team on board of the ‘Sea Challenger’ rather than as three different companies.”
Ørsted owns 50% of the 1,218 MW Hornsea One offshore wind farm and divested 50% to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) in 2018. The wind farm is located 120 km off the Yorkshire coast and when fully commissioned, it will power well over one million homes with renewable energy.
