This state-of-of-the-art umbilical manufacturing plant is to be built by Aker Solutions in Pekan, Malaysia, to meet the anticipated Asia Pacific business growth. Representing a total investment of $60 million, the new facility will complement existing umbilicals manufacturing plants in Norway and the US, strengthening Aker’s position as a leading producer of steel tube umbilicals. The Pekan facility is scheduled to begin operations in 4Q 2013. The company has already opened its regional head office for umbilicals, managed by Crawford Tennant, in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Aker Solutions has also announced plans to expand its Port Klang subsea system manufacturing facility.
