Norway's PSA OK's Scarabeo 5 use

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) granted operator Statoil consent to use the Scarabeo 5 mobile drilling facility to plug well 6406/2-R-4 BHT2 permanently and simultaneously drill a new production well, designated 6406/2-R-4-CH, as a sidetrack from the well being plugged. Water depth at the site is 355m and the combined activities are estimated to last 138 days.

Block 6406/2 makes up part of the Kristin field, which is part of the Haltenbanken area in the Norwegian Sea.

Scarabeo 5, a type ME 4500 drilling facility, was built at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Genoa, Italy, in 1990, and is operated by Saipem Norwegian Branch. The facility is registered in the Bahamas, classified by ABS and in May 2003, it was issued an Acknowledgement of Compliance by the PSA.

The well template to which the well belongs has these geographical coordinates:

· 64° 57' 36.86" N

· 06° 26' 19.14" E
