Peak Well Systems opens test facility

Advanced downhole tool for well intervention designer and manufacturer Peak Well Systems has completed a new gas pressure testing facility in Aberdeen (UK) as part of its research and development commitment to provide oil and gas operators with advanced and reliable plug systems.

The gas test facility will enable in-house ISO14310 validation testing of Peak product lines up to the highest V0-Grade (zero gas leak). The facility is fully equipped to conduct testing at temperatures up to 200ºC (392ºF) and pressures of up to 15kpsi for prolonged periods of time in simulated gas wells. 

The test bay can accommodate test fixtures up to 30ft-long and 9-5/8in-diameter and is fully equipped for remote monitoring and measurement of digital test data using a flexible 16–channel recording system.

Certified by a Chartered Explosives Engineer, the facilities comply fully with UK health and safety regulations and provide a safe environment for a wide range of test applications ensuring secure containment of any unforeseen pressure or projectile release.

The opening of the new facilities in Aberdeen follows the successful opening in 2014 of Peak’s testing facilities in Perth, Australia, where comprehensive testing has already been successfully performed on Peak’s SIMPLUS range of V3-Grade ISO14310 plugs and subsequently independently verified and certified by Det Norske Veritas.

The SIMPLUS Retrievable Bridge Plug is designed for well barrier applications in monobore wells, creating a reliable and high performance downhole seal at any point in the well and is available in all sizes ranging from 2-7/8in up to 7in.

Both Peak’s Perth (Australia) and Aberdeen (UK) based testing facilities are available for rental.
