Spectrum has completed a 2D seismic program offshore south Somalia following the acquisition of 20,582.75 line km of data.
The new acquisition complements 20,000km of existing seismic that was acquired in 2014 and the two datasets will allow the in-depth study of hydrocarbon prospectivity offshore Somalia. The survey has been completed without any incident.
On the 5 September 2015 Spectrum and the Federal Government of Somalia entered into a Multi-client master co-operation agreement with the federal government of Somalia during a signing ceremony at the SYL Hotel, Mogadishu.
Spectrum has already started to process the data, for which interpretation will begin in Q3 and its findings will be announced by the Federal Government. This effort will reveal the resources, whether oil or gas, hidden beneath the sea-floor of the Indian Ocean.
Seven Ministry geoscientists participated on the acquisition of the data and trained on the ship executing the seismic shooting. These trainees will now travel to Egypt where they will study data processing and geologic interpretation at Spectrum’s imaging centre there.
