Materia introduces Proxima resin for subsea equipment

Published

Materia, a catalyst and advanced polymer developer and manufacturer, has introduced Proxima thermoset resins for applications in subsea thermal insulation, subsea buoyancy, and for downhole tools.

Proxima HTI resins for high temperature subsea thermal insulation provides a thermal barrier between high temperature flowlines and seawater, and can maintain structural integrity in operating environments at water depths greater than 10,000ft. Earlier this year, Materia was selected to supply pipeline insulation materials for Shell’s Appomattox development in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.

For subsea buoyancy applications, Proxima STR thermosets are designed for use in syntactic foams. The material was designed to be lightweight and capable of withstanding the hydrostatic pressures of deep- and ultra-deepwater environments while providing buoyant support to critical subsea components.

Aiming at the downhole tool market, Materia offers Proxima HPR casting resins and ACR infusion resins. Proxima HPR casting resins are designed for thermal stability and toughness when drilling with polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) or tricone bits. When long fiber composite performance is required, Proxima ACR infusion resins incorporate fiberglass and carbon fiber. Compared to standard composite materials, the ACR infusion resin is designed to improve thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and reliability.
