Eni to drill Aurelia wildcat with Scarabeo 8

Published

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Eni Norge a drilling permit for the Aurelia wildcat well, 7222/1-1, in the Barents Sea.

Well 7222/1-1 will be drilled from the Scarabeo 8 drilling facility in production license 226.

The drilling program for well 7222/1-1 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 226. The area in this license consists of part of block 7220/1. The well will be drilled about 250km north of Hammerfest.

Production license 226 was awarded on 30 May 1997 in the Barents Sea project. This is the first well to be drilled within the license area.

The permit is contingent on the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities before the drilling activity commences.

Late last month, Eni gained the approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill Aurelia.

Eni Norge is the operator with an ownership interest of 60%. The other licensees are DEA Norge and Edison Norge, each with 20%.
