Tullow fails at Rome

Published

Tullow Oil Norge failed to find any hydrocarbons at the Rome prospect in the Central North Sea, and will now plug and abandon exploration well 16/5-6 in production licence PL776.

The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 2319m below sea level by the semisubmersible Borgland Dolphin rig in a water depth of 98m.

The area in this production license consists of parts of blocks 16/5, 6, 8 and 9. The well will be drilled about 30km south of the Johan Sverdrup field. This was the first well to be drilled within the production license area.

Drilling at the well began in June.

Tullow Oil Norge has a 40% operated interest in licence PL776 with Concedo, Wintershall and Petoro each holding 20%.

The Borgland Dolphin will now be mobilized to drill the wildcat well 35/11-20 A for Wintershall.
