London-based Ophir Energy completed a 3D seismic survey of the 1528sq kmexploration block, Junon, in the Seychelles exclusive economic zone, located about 125km southeast of the main Seychelles island of Mahé.

WHL Energy Ltd., joint venture partner, announced the completion of the survey on 29 July was done in 36 days, using the M/V Polar Duchess.

The Junon 3D seismic survey is designed to mature a number of prospects for drilling on the Junon trend in Junon South, Junon East and Junon Central, an area high graded by WHL Energy’s geological studies.

WHL Energy says the Junon 3D dataset is expected to provide a high definition subsurface image of the Junon structures and provide a number of prospects from which to select for drilling.

Data from the survey will be processed with an initial fast track processed data set, with an expected in September and a PreSTM processed volume in December.

WHL Energy is carried up to US$17 million through the acquisition and processing of the seismic survey by Ophir as part of Ophir’s farm-in to the Seychelles acreage.

The two-year old Polar Duchess is rigged with Sercel SSAS Sentinel streamers and is capable of towing 14 streamers at 100m separation. The vessel uses software developed by Open Geophysical for real-time quality control of data during acquisition.
