Third well online at Sapinhoá

A third well is now producing in the Sapinhoá field, Petrobras announced, in keeping with the target date given when its preceding well was brought onstream in February.

Well 7-SPH-04-SPS, which lays in 2120m of water on Block BM-S-9 of the Santos basin presalt region, has an estimated production potential of 26,000bo/d, the Brazilian company said.

Sapinhoá‘s first producing well, 1-SPS-55, was brought online in December 2013, with a potential production rate of 25,000b/d. Oil from 1-SPS-55 is 30°API.

Well 9-SPS-77 was brought online in late February with a production rate of 33,000bpd. Petrobras announced that it is producing better than estimated at a rate of 36,000bo/d.

All wells are connected to FPSO Cidade de São Paulo through buoyancy supported risers, a system Petrobras has repeatedly referred to as “pioneering.” It has the capacity to process up to 120,000bpd when the fourth well is connected 2H 2014.

The first Santos basin buoy was installed in Sapinhoá in December 2013, with one more commissioned. The Sapinhoá buoys will connect to Cidade de São Paulo.

The two buoys scheduled for Lula will be connected to a second FPSO, Cidade de Paraty, which came online 6 June 2013, with the connection of7-LL-11-RJS well in the Lula Nordeste field. Located in Block BM-S-11, Lula NE neighbors Sapinhoá.

Petrobras said that “improvements [were] made to installation processes” before proceeding with the second buoy in Lula. It was completed in February in less than one-third of the time taken to install its Sapinhoá predecessor.  The other two buoys will be installed 1H 2014.

Oil from Lula Nordeste field is 29°API.

Lula well 7-LL-22D-RJS, scheduled to go into production 1Q 2014, will be the first connected to the Lula NE buoy, and Petrobras said that the flexible pipeline installation process is underway. The steel pipelines necessary to gather output from the two wells through the buoy were completed 9 March 2014.

The system was built by Subsea 7, who won the three, ultra-deepwater US$30 million contracts in March 2013.

Petrobras also announced that in March, it broke its previous presalt production record with output at an average of 387,000bo/d.

Petrobras operates Sapinhoá Field (45%) in partnership with BG E&P Brasil Ltda (30%) and Repsol Sinopec Brasil S.A. (25%).
