InterMoor successfully completed the installation and hook up of the permanent mooring system for the Delta House field floating production system (FPS) in the Gulf of Mexico.

Delta House is located in Mississippi Canyon Block 254, 130 mi. southeast of New Orleans.
As part of a contract awarded by joint venture LLOG Bluewater, InterMoor designed, fabricated and installed 12 suction pile anchors. The suction piles were fabricated at InterMoor’s 34-acre facility in Morgan City, Louisiana and are being used as permanent anchors for the project. They measure in at 85ft long, 16ft in diameter and weigh approximately 165kb. In addition, InterMoor installed 12 preset chain/polyester mooring lines and hooked up the FPS in 4450ft of water. Installation took place in 2Q 2014 and was followed by the hook-up in 3Q.
InterMoor says one of the challenges of the deepwater installation was the use of a prescribed anchor-handling vessel, the Joshua Chouest, on long-term charter to the LLOG drilling department. Because the mooring system was procured early on in the design process, it was necessary to find a solution that would utilize the selected vessel and extend the vessel capabilities beyond what has previously been done with this class of vessel in terms of mooring component size.
“As permanent mooring systems get larger and larger, utilizing traditional anchor-handling vessels for the installation is proving more and more challenging,” says Todd Veselis, general manager, Permanent Moorings, InterMoor. “Flexibility, adaptability and innovation are critical to extending the capabilities of the existing fleet of anchor-handling vessels to keep pace with larger mooring components, to maximize returns and deliver projects on time and within budget constraints.”
The Delta House FPS will have an initial production capacity of 80,000b/d and 200MMcf/d of gas and has a payload of capacity of 9300-tonne. Its peak capacity is expected to reach 100,000b/d and 240MMcf/d of gas. Initial production from the field is expected in 1H 2015.
In November, Norway-based Ocean Installer was awarded a contract for an umbilical installation project with Oceaneering for LLOG on the Delta House project that includes umbilical transpooling, pre-lay survey, installation of umbilical with dynamic and static sections and umbilical pull-in to the Delta House semisubmersible. The project will be the construction support vessel (CSV) Normand Vision’s first SURF contract in the Gulf of Mexico and will use its 1800-tonne, back-deck carousel to install the umbilical for the Son of Bluto 2 discovery in approximately 2000m water depth. The offshore installation is scheduled to begin mid January 2015.
In October, Marine Contracting towed the Delta House FPS from the Kiewit offshore facility at Ingleside, Texas to Mississippi Canyon Area Block 254A. The project included detailed engineering and planning for the development of tow manual procedures and material specifications, vetting and approving of vessels, the procuring of towing equipment, and the coordination of activities with all parties and regulatory authorities.
