Allseas to do Brent removals

Allseas’ heavy-lift and pipelay vessel the Pieter Schelte has been awarded its first contract.

The vessel, under construction at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in Okpo, Korea, is to carry out topsides removals on the Shell-operated Brent field in the North Sea.

The contract includes the removal, transportation and load-in to shore of the topsides of the Bravo, Charlie and Delta platforms, about 186km north-east of Lerwick, Shetland, in the North Sea.

It also includes the removal of Brent Alpha’s steel jacket and an option to include the Alpha’s topsides.

Once complete, the Pieter Schelte, at 382 m long and 124 m wide, will have a topsides lift capacity of 48,000 tonnes (53,000 short tons) and a jacket lift capacity of 25,000 tonnes (27,500 short tons) (OE: May 2013 http://oedigital.com/component/k2/item/3050-mega-projects-on-the-horizon-for-the-pieter-schelte)

The Brent field comprises four platforms—Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta—weighing 16,000 to 30,000 tonnes and standing in 140 m deep water.

Bravo, Charlie and Delta are concrete gravity-based structures.

Removal work is due to start with Brent Delta in 2015-16. The remaining topsides will be removed over the following eight years, with dates to be confirmed, says Allseas.
