Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has given Norske Shell consent to use the Island Constructor mobile drilling facility for start-up and repair of wells on the Draugen field, offshore Norway.
Draugen is an oil field in the Norwegian Sea in 250m of water. The field has been developed using a fixed concrete facility with an integrated deck. Stabilized oil is stored in tanks in the base of the facility.
Island Constructor is a facility designed for well intervention which is operated by Island Offshore Management. The facility received Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in September 2010.
In April, Island Offshore secured contracts with Norske Shell worth US$12 million (100 million NOK) for two of its vessels, the Island Valiant and Island Constructor at the Draugen oil field.
The Island Valiant will began its contract with IMR-work (inspection, maintenance and repair) on three wells in April, preparing the wells for the work, which the Island Constructor will perform later in the summer.
