E.ON's Salander probe dry

E.ON E&P Norge's exploration well 6507/3-11 S on the Salander prospect east of the Skarv field in the Norwegian Sea was dry, says the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

The primary and secondary exploration targets for the well in PL650 were to prove petroleum in Middle and Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Fangst and Båt groups).

In the primary exploration target, the well encountered about 30m of reservoir rocks in the Garn formation and 60m of reservoir rocks in the Ile formation (the Fangst group), both with very good reservoir quality.

In the secondary exploration target, about 95m and 70m of reservoir rocks were encountered in the Tilje and Åre formation in the Båt group, respectively, both with good to very good reservoir properties. But, the well was dry.

The well was the first exploration well in PL650, awarded in APA 2011. The well was drilled to measured and vertical depths of 2470m and 2306m below the sea surface, respectively, and was terminated in the Åre formation in the Lower Jurassic.

Well 6507/3-11 S was drilled in 350m water depth on the Halten Bank using the Borgland Dolphin drilling facility, which will now proceed to production license 248 in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 35/11-18 where Wintershall Norge AS is the operator.
