Newcomer Borr Drilling has landed its first deal with a supermajor. Borr and its Nigerian partner company Valiant Energy Services West received a letter of commitment from Total E&P Nigeria for the Frigg jackup.

The deal is for a firm one-year period with a possible extension, and will begin in Q3 2017.

The Frigg is a KFELS Super A class high-specification jackup, which entered into service in 2013. The unit is capable of operating in water depths up to 400ft and drilling to depths of 35,000ft.

Frigg, formerly the Hercules Resilience, is one of two premium jackups that Borr acquired in January 2017 from Hercules Offshore.

“We are proud to have secured our first commitment with a supermajor,” says Rune Magnus Lundetræ, Borr CEO. “We have during our first 180 days of operation recruited a highly competent organization, built a solid management system and world-class operational systems and procedures. We are pleased that these efforts are now recognized by Total E&P Nigeria and we are looking forward to establishing our presence as the leading operator of high specification jackups in the years to come.”

Earlier this year, Borr also completed a deal with Transocean to buy its jackup fleet.
