The INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG Project’s floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility Ichthys Venturer has set sail for Australia.
The 336m-long long ship-shaped, offshore facility has started a 5600km voyage that will take about one month to complete, from South Korea towards her ultimate destination in the Browse Basin, 220km off the north coast of Western Australia.
The facility will be permanently moored in 250m deepwater, where it will undergo hook-up and commissioning, along with the Ichthys Explorer central processing facility (CPF), 3.5km away.
When operational, the FPSO will process and store condensate delivered from the Ichthys LNG Project’s CPF before periodically offloading this condensate to export carrier vessels.
“The sail away of the massive Ichthys Venturer marks another significant stride forward for the Ichthys LNG Project,” Louis Bon, Managing Director Ichthys Project stated. “The Ichthys Venturer has been designed to withstand cyclonic conditions and is one of the largest and most advanced offshore facilities of its kind in the world.”
Ichthys Venturer has a storage capacity of 1.12 MMbo of condensate and will have a continuous operating life of 40 years.
The Ichthys LNG project is operated by Inpex (62.245%) alongside major partner Total (30%) and the Australian subsidiaries of CPC Corp. (2.625%), Tokyo Gas (1.575%), Osaka Gas (1.2%), Kansai Electric (1.2%), Jera (0.735%) and Toho Gas (0.42%).
It involves producing and shipping about 8.9 million tons of LNG and 1.6 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas per year, along with around 100,000 b/d of condensate at peak.
