All Coast LLC will enter the US offshore wind farm market with the development of the first Jones Act-compliant vessel built for offshore wind farm installation and support activities.
The liftboat will be capable of installing offshore foundations and wind turbines, as well as providing necessary maintenance in years to come, All Coast said in a 27 July press statement.
A. K. Suda, Inc. (SUDA), Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, will optimize the design of the liftboat, which is based on the SUDA model JG6000P, to work within the restrictions present at different US staging ports. Louisiana-based shipyard SEMCO will construct the vessel.
A US flagged installation and maintenance vessel will help to establish a sustainable offshore industry in the US, said Jason Folsom, Head of Sales, Offshore Americas, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, in the release.
“Siemens Gamesa is confident in the development of offshore wind, and the US is a focus market for us as we expand outside of developed markets in Europe,” Folsom said.
Lafayette, Louisiana-based All Coast is a provider of liftboats to the North America oil and gas industry. The company’s success in the oil and gas sector is prompting All Coast to tackle US offshore wind, the company said in the release.
