US Independent Anadarko Petroleum has terminated its contract with Dolphin Drilling's Bolette Dolphin drillship, the drilling contractor announced on 2 July.
Dolphin, a subsidiary of Fred. Olsen Energy, said the termination will be effective at the end of August 2017. Anadarko will pay a termination fee of approximately US$96 million, per the contract, Dolphin said.
The Bolette Dolphin had been under contract with Anadarko during its Colombian offshore drilling campaign. The contract was originally scheduled to end in July 2018. Anadarko said in its 1Q operations report, released in May 2017, that the drillship was to sail to the Ivory Coast to drill the Paon-6A well in May, following the completion of operations in Colombia.
Built in 2014, the Bolette Dolphin is a sixth generation drillship measuring 751ft (length) x 118ft (breadth) x 59.5ft (depth). It was constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries at the firm's Ulsan yard in South Korea. Designed by Gusto MSC, the Bolette Dolphin is a P10000 rig model. It is able to operate in water depths of 12,000ft (3660m), and is equipped for a maximum drilling depth of 40,000ft (12,200m).
