BPZ Energy expects to spud the first well at its CX-15 development, off Peru, within three to six weeks depending on weather and sea conditions, the company confirmed on 28 February 2013.

"First drilling at the CX-15 is taking longer than anticipated due to the usual learning curve on starting up a new platform," said Manolo Zúñiga, President and CEO of BPZ Energy. "It is important that our team follow all the recommended engineering and safety measures during the startup phase of this multi-well drilling campaign, which includes commissioning all the production equipment and interconnecting the CX-11 and CX-15 platforms with four production lines."
The CX-15 development's first well, 4D, will target 6,700ft subsea. Cuttings from conventional cores of reservoir rocks will be taken during drilling operations.
BPZ also announced that the workover campaign at its Corvina CX-11 development has resumed with work undertaken at the 14D well. Workover will also be carried out on the 15D well.
"With both Corvina platforms interconnected our reservoir management capability is also expected to improve," Zúñiga said. "Meanwhile, interpretation of the new 3D seismic data at Corvina is ongoing, allowing us to continue refining the future CX-15 development drilling locations. Furthermore, the 3D seismic data acquired in the rest of Block Z-1 is allowing us to define our future offshore exploration program, and our return to drilling at Albacora."
Installed in October, The CX-15 platform sits at the West Corvina field location, one mile south of the CX-11 platform.
The CX-15 facility includes a 2,500-ton buoyant tower hull, built by GMC and Horton Wison, measuring 69.9m in length with four, ring-stiffened connected cylindrical tubes including one central suction pile. The CX-15 supports a 1,500-ton, three-level topsides facility – designed by Audubon Engineering and GMC – and will have a production capacity of 12,200 b/d and 12.8 MMcf/d of gas. The faciliy can support a drilling rig with 24 well slots. The Petrex-28 rig is under contract.
