The newbuild semisubmersible La Muralla IV arrived in Mexico waters after a 16,200-mile journey.
Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Glacier delivered the semisubmersible La Muralla IV to the Bay of Campeche, Mexico. The rig was towed from Okpo, South Korea, via the Sunda Strait and Cape of Good Hope.
La Muralla IV is a new semisubmersible drilling rig for ultra deep water operations, owned by Mexican Grupo R. The rig was constructed by Deawoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea and is designed to drill up to depths of 10,000m. The rig has a length of 118.6m and a width of 96.7m.
The tug hooked-up with the rig at the end of October 2012 at the port of Okpo, South Korea. The convoy sailed south then west via southeast Asia’s Sunda Strait and around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope toward the Gulf of Mexico. The convoy arrived in Mexican waters at the end of February after covering more than 16,200 miles at an average speed of 6.6 knots.
