CNOOC repairs Zhuhai pipeline

China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) confirmed that the Zhuhai Terminal has been restored to normal production following the discovery of a leak at a subsea natural gas pipeline in December 2011.

In 2011, CNOOC placed normal production at the Zhuhai Terminal at 160 Mcf/d or 26,700 boe/d. The leakage, CNOOC said, was caused by external forces.

"As the leakage point of the pipeline was located in a place that faced severe weather conditions, which brought challenges to the routine engineering resources and operational techniques," the company said.

CNOOC was able to temporarily restore the line in January 2012, but was not able to return full production until recently.

"The restoration team achieved zero failure rates through using innovative construction methods and strengthening quality control," CNOOC said.

Zhuhai Terminal, located in Hengqin island in the Guangdong province in southeast China, is the gas processing terminal for the joint development of natural gas project of both PY30-1 gas field and HZ oil and gas field.
