Deepwater gas strike off India

Published

Reliance Industries (RIL) and BP have made a second deepwater gas condensate discovery in the Cauvery basin offshore India.

The discovery, named D-56, was made in well CYIIID5-S1 on Block CY-DWN-2001/2, in 1743m water depth, 62km off the coast. The block covers an area of 14,325sq m.

The well’s primary objective was Mesozoic reservoirs. RIL said data indicated gas condensate across a 143m column.

A drill stem test saw gas flow at a rate of 35.2MM cu ft/d and condensate flow at 413 bo/d through a 53/64in. choke, with an initial reservoir pressure of 8000 psi

It is the second gas discovery in the block. RIL made a gas and condensate discovery in the Cauvery Basin on well CY-III-D5-A1 (D-35) in 2007.

RIL is operator, with 70% equity, with BP holding the remaining 30%.

BP has been a partner on Block CY-DWN-2001/2 since 2011, which it agreed a strategic partnership with RIL.

The partnership gave BP a 30% stake in 23 oil and gas production sharing contracts Reliance operates in India, including the producing KG-D6 block and deepwater areas.
