Offshore engineering, construction, and support services firm Sembmarine SLP is investing in additional facilities in Lowestoft and Aberdeen.

In Lowestoft, the company's Offshore Services Group has just moved into new premises at Newcombe House.

This group is currently responsible for two major on-going offshore projects and, with a number of new contract awards expected over the coming 4-6 weeks, the new base will provide sufficient room to accommodate additional personnel, who will be recruited for these new projects, says the firm.

Additional accommodation is also being created by Sembmarine SLP at its Hamilton Dock, and load-out quay in Lowestoft, to accomodate the additional engineering and construction workforce required to support new contracts.

In Aberdeen, the company has identified opportunities to provide a front-end engineering design (FEED) service to the offshore oil, gas, and wind energy sectors.

The company is planning to open an office in early 2014, to provide this service. FEED is increasingly being used by the operating companies, which have rights and licences to develop or enhance major offshore infrastructure projects as a way of quantifying project risk.

Sembmarine SLP managing director Paul Thomson said: "With over 40 years of engineering experience in offshore energy, we are planning to take advantage of the many opportunities which are currently coming to the fore in the North Sea. My colleagues and I believe the investment in these new facilities in Lowestoft and Aberdeen will play an important role in the company's continued growth."
