Shell has appointed Houston-based consulting firm, Endeavor Management to advise the supermajor in preparation for a possible revamp of Shell's Chukchi Sea drilling campaign.
Endeavor said it will provide support and advice for a third-party audit of Shell’s management systems related to arctic operations. In 2013, the firm worked with Shell’s Venture Team to develop and submit an Integrated Operations Plan—which covered the full scope of operations in the Chukchi Sea—to the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
Bruce Crager, executive vice president of Endeavor Management, said: “Endeavor Management is very glad to be of assistance to Shell in this world class effort. Our personnel, including many who have retired from USCG, have many years of experience with Arctic operations and bring extensive expertise to bear on this project.”
Shell announced in January that the company was stopping its exploration program for Alaska this year, after a US court of appeals ruled that the government did not assess environmental risks when issuing drilling leases in the Arctic. The ruling followed an incident in which the Shell-operated Kulluk drilling rig ran aground off Sitkalidrak Island in the Gulf of Alaska during its tow to Seattle, Washington in late 2012.
Last month, Shell announced that it was cutting its capex from $US46 billion in 2013 to about $37 billion for 2014.
