Nexen's Golden Eagle PUQ deck aboard Dockwise's Fjord in RotterdamThe topsides for the Golden Eagle area development (GEAD) are nearing final assembly in the UK North Sea, 43mi. (70km) northeast of Aberdeen. The project is operated by Nexen Petroleum, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC Ltd.

GEAD involves three fields: Golden Eagle, Peregrine, and Solitaire. Production at the $3.3-billion project is expected to begin in late 2014.

The production, utilities and quarter (PUQ) deck, which weighs 13,191.98t, left Lamprell's Jebel Ali yard in Dubai on 17 April. Marine contractor Dockwise used its 159m-long MV Fjord semisubmersible to transport the PUQ for Saipem Ltd. and Nexen Petroleum.

The PUQ and living quarters module will be mounted on the PUQ jacket.

The 2000t living quarters module was built by Sembmarine SLP in Lowestoft, UK and left the Hamilton Dock, on 19 May 2014.

Jackets

Heerema Fabrication Group completed construction of the two 6500t jackets for Golden Eagle last year at its Vlissingen fabrication facility. The wellhead platform (WHP) jacket sailed away on 24 May and was installed on location 10 June 2013.  The production, utilities and quarters (PUQ) jacket was completed the following month and loaded onto the Taurus on 29 July 2013.
