Ithaca Energy opted to extend its contract with BW Offshore's BW Athena FPSO, the Olso, Norway-based vessel owner announced on 6 June 2014.

The original contract, signed in 2010, covered a service period from 2012-2015. Ithaca Energy excercised the option to add an additional five years of service, extending the contract to 2020. BW Offshore said that Ithaca has the right to terminate the contract with rolling 12-month notice.

The BW Athena, formerly BW Carmen, serves the Athena oil field, located in block 14/18b in the Outer Moray Firth area of the UK Continental Shelf.

Built in 1994, the vessel was converted into a FPSO in 1999. First oil was achieved at Athena in 2012. The FPSO has a current oil production capacity of 28,000b/d, with storage capacity for 50,000bbl.
