UK issues guidance for emergency response planning at OREIs

Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm 2012The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) issued a notice yesterday containing updated requirements for emergency response cooperation plans and requirements for emergency response and search-and-rescue (SAR) helicopter operations relating to offshore renewable energy installations (OREIs).

The 27pp document contains information relating to emergency response planning for at-sea renewable energy installations - wind, wave, tide and currents, as well as requirements for SAR helicopter operations in and around OREIs.

Operators and developers are required to use this information in formulating their emergency response plans and site-safety management systems.

The UK MCA says that Emergency Response Cooperation Plans (ERCo) plans should be developed and put in place for the construction, production operation and the decommissioning phases of any OREI.
