BG Group started loading the first cargo of LNG from its Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) facility this week on the Methane Rita Andrea tri-fuel diesel electric (TFDE) LNG carrier.

QCLNG’s second cargo, expected in Gladstone in the first week of January, will loaded onto the Methane Mickie Harper vessel.

QCLNG, the world’s first coal-seam-gas to LNG facility, will expand further with the start-up of the second train in 3Q 2015. Plateau production is anticipated in 2016 and at that time, QCLNG is expected to have an output of approximately 8 million tonne of LNG per year.

"This is an immense achievement which demonstrates the company's ability to deliver a highly complex LNG project,” says Andrew Gould, interim executive chairman. “The ongoing support from both the State Government of Queensland and the local councils of our upstream region and in Gladstone has also been pivotal in this development."

Last week, BG Group announced it is selling two of its TFDE LNG carriers, the Methane Becki Anne and the Methane Julia Lousie to GasLog in a US$460 million deal. The majority of the proceeds will be used to support the funding of the BG Pension Scheme, in which the remaining net proceeds from the acquisition of $100 million will be used to reduce BG Group’s net debt.
