McDermott DB50 lifts 3250-tonne jacket

McDermott’s Derrick Barge 50 (DB50) completed the installation of a drilling and production platform that included the heavy lift of a 3250-tonne jacket in the Gulf of Mexico.

The DB50 installation. From McDermott.

According to McDermott, the lift establishes the record for the largest jacket lifted by the vessel to date.

The six-pile platform was lifted by the DB50 in tie-back mode over the stern of the vessel in 391ft water depth over an existing well site. Piles were driven to a designed penetration of 430ft and a 2300-tonne drilling and production deck was then installed on the jacket.

“The project specified that the jacket be lifted, not launched and our heavy-lift vessel fit the criteria, providing the flexibility required to install a jacket of this magnitude and its corresponding deck,” says Scott Munro, McDermott VP, Americas/Europe/Africa.

McDermott has been awarded further transportation and installation contracts for the Gulf of Mexico that are expected to be executed by the DB50 in during 1H 2015.

The DB50 is capable of lifting surface loads up to 4400-tonne and lowering up to 480-tonne in 11,500ft of water.
