KrisEnergy kicks off Thai campaign

Singapore-based KrisEnergy began its drilling campaign in the Gulf of Thailand.

The Key Gibraltar. From Shelf Drilling.

The campaign is starting at the Rossukon-2 exploration well located in G6/48 and lies about1km northeast of the Rossukon-1 discovery well. G6/48 covers 566sq km over the Karawake basin and lies to the north of the G10/48 license, where KrisEnergy is developing the Wassana oil field.

Rossukon-2 is at a water depth of 210ft and is planned to reach total depth of 5462ft. using Shelf Drilling’s Key Gibraltar jackup rig. The exploration well will test Early Miocene stacked fluvial sandstones on a broad structural high. KrisEnergy says that the well will also appraise the Rossukon-1 reservoir, which tested 850 b/d of oil, and is designed to identify additional volumes of oil that could move the discovery closer to commercial development. Water depth at the Rossukon-2 well location is 210 feet.

In June, KrisEnergy awarded Shelf Drilling a contract for the Key Gibraltar for a firm six months for its Thai drilling program, which includes Rossukon-2 in G6/48 and 15 development wells in the Wassana oil field. The contract has an option to extend for an additional two months.

KrisEnergy operates G6/48 with 30% working interest. Partners include Northern Gulf Petroleum (40%) and Mubadala Petroleum (30%).
