Quadrant sees Outtrim East-1 delay

Published

Quadrant Energy’s Outtrim East-1 well has suffered a 10-day delay due to drilling challenges, offshore Western Australia.

According to partner Carnarvon Petroleum, the well reached the 12-1/4in hole section at a depth of 1011m, however, the first casing string was set shallower than expected due to drilling challenges in the shallow-hole section of the well around 400m, which had resulted in a delay of approximately 10 days.

The Outtrim East-1 well, located within the WA-155-P(1) exploration permit in the North West Shelf of Australia, has successfully drilled through this challenging section, Carnarvon said.

The well is currently rigging up to run the 9-5/8in casing liner at section of a total depth of 1011m.

Moving forward, after the 9-5/8in casing liner has been cemented, drilling will continue to the expected oil zone where 90m of conventional coring will take place. After obtaining the core, the final section of the well will be drilled to a total depth of 1440m.

The well was spudded in mid-June with the Noble Tom Prosser jackup.

Quadrant is the operator of permit with 71.5% stake, with partner Carnarvon holding the remaining 28.5%.
