Aasta Hansteen Spar reaches complete form

Published

Statoil's Aasta Hansteen Spar development substructure has reached its complete form in its yard in South Korea.

The Spar will be the world's largest Spar platform weighing in at a whopping 70,000-tonne, and Norway's first Spar development.

The substructure alone weighs 45,000-tonne, and is 200m long and 50m in diameter.

On Wednesday (27 July), last week, the 4500-tonne Spar deck was successfully lifted onto the substructure at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea.

Next year, the hull and the topside will be transported to Stord, Norway, before it is completed and towed to its new home, the Aasta Hansteen field in the Norwegian Sea.

Last year Statoil revealed the Aasta Hansteen development had suffered a one-year delay and a 9% increase in costs.
