The firm's Pyi Tharyar-1 well, in 2449m water depth, in Block A-6, had intersected a thin column of gas saturated sands, which were considered unlikely to be commercially recoverable, said Woodside.

The final well in the campaign, the Khayang Swal-1 well, in 1487m water depth, in Block AD-7, in th Bay of Bengal, intersected water-wet sands in the target interval and was classified as a dry hole.

The prior well, Phi Thit-1, in 2001m water depth, the Rakhine Basin, had discovered gas and was hailed as the firm's third gas discovery offshore Myanmar, when it was announced in August

The well, in Block A-6, intersected a gross gas column of approximately 65m. About 36m of net gas pay was interpreted within the primary target interval in sandstone reservoirs.

Last year, the firm made the Thalin discovery in Block AD-7, which was further appraised earlier this year.

According to Reuters, Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said the company is still on track to decide on development plans in Myanmar by the end of 2018.
