Ireland’s Lansdowne Oil & Gas has failed to farm out of two licenses off the south coast of Ireland, due to industry conditions that will prevent drilling at the prospects.
“Due to adverse industry conditions, attempts to farm-out SEL 5/07, containing the Rosscarbery and SE Rosscarbery gas prospects, and SEL 5/08, containing the Amergin prospect, have been unsuccessful,” Lansdowne said. “As Lansdowne has not been able to demonstrate that drilling will be achieved in 2016, these licenses have lapsed with effect from 31 December 2015.”
License 5/07 encompasses 181sq km, and lies in 100m water depth. It incorporates part-blocks 48/17, 48/18 and 48/19 adjacent to and immediately northwest of the Kinsale Head Gas field. This license also contains the Galley Head gas discovery with potential for 30 Bcf GIIP/ 25 Bcf recoverable. The SE Rosscarbery and Rosscarbery prospects have combined P50 prospective resources of 324 Bcf GIIP/ 247 Bcf recoverable. Lansdowne is the operator of 5/07 with 99% stake.
The Galley Head discovery well (48/18-1), lying some 6km northeast of the main Rosscarbery Prospect, was drilled by BP in 1985 and tested gas at 13.7 MMcf/d from the Lower Cretaceous Greensand, ‘A’ Sand, reservoir.
License 5/08 incorporates part-blocks 47/25, 48/21 and 48/22 on the north-western flank of the North Celtic Sea basin. The blocks cover an area of 227sq km and are approximately 30km from the south coast of Ireland.
Two large structures, Amergin and Eremon, have been mapped at Jurassic level.
Amergin has potential for 739 MMbbl STOIIP / 231 MMbbl recoverable.
