Australian operator OMV has found additional oil on its Barents Sea Wisting field through its latest appraisal well 7324/8-3, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

The well was drilled about 2km south of the discovery well 7324/8-1 and 315km north of Hammerfest.
The Wisting discovery was made in 2013. Until the latest well, OMV's resource estimate for the Wisting area was 22-80 MMcum of recoverable oil equivalents.
The latest well aimed to reduce uncertainties around the recoverable volumes, as well as to perform a water injection test in reservoir rocks in the Stø formation and a seismic monitoring study.
Well 7324/8-3 found a 55m oil column in sandstones from the Middle Jurassic to Late Triassic.
The well, drilled in 396m water depth using the Island Innovator semisubmerisble drilling rig, will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
It was the sixth exploration well drilled in production licence 537, which was awarded in 2009, in the 20th licensing round.
The Wisting discovery well, 7324/8-1, was proven in reservoir rocks from the Middle and Early Jurassic (upper part of the Realgrunnen sub-group) in 2013.
