Petrobras has made new oil discoveries in the Espirito Santo Basin, offshore Brazil, according to exploration partner Inpex.
The discoveries, in the BM-ES-23 concession, 115km off the coast of the State of Espirito Santo, southeastern Brazil, found oil with an API of 36 at a depth of approximately 4300m.
The finds, in 1800-2000m water depth, follow earlier discoveries made in the same concession, announced in October last year. Inpex said at the time that deposits of oil were found at 3550m depth on the BM-ES-23.
The latest deposits were confirmed by production tests conducted at a depth between 4305m and 4383m, says Inpex. Petrobras, with its partners Inpex and PTTEP, are conducting an ongoing appraisal drilling campaign in BM-ES-23.
Inpex says the partnership will analyze and evaluate the data retrieved from the well, in addition to the data on the deposits discovered at shallower depths.
Petrobras is operator on BM-ES-23, with 65% interest, alongside Inpex (15%) and PTTEP (20%).
