Oil production from the Oyong field offshore East Java, Indonesia, ceased in June as part of the Sampang Sustainability Project, according to partner Cue Energy.
As part of the project, the field’s production has been switched to natural gas only, allowing operations to continue at significantly lower cost, Cue said in its Q4 2017 report.
Last year, Santos and partners announced the sustainability project to extend the life of the Sampang area fields to at least 2020. The project involved not only switching the Oyong field to gas production only, but the Wortel field as well.
The original schedule called for the production switch to take place in September of this year, allowing both the floating production storage offloading (FPSO) vessel, Seagood, and the FPSO Surya Putra Jaya, to be decommissioned in Q4 2017.
Cue holds 15% interest in the Sampang production sharing contract. Santos (Sampang) Pty Ltd. is operator.
During the quarter, the Sampang joint venture reviewed the potential for new reservoirs at the field to be tested above the producing Mundu sands, Cue said. The operator has proposed new completions in Oyong 5 and Oyong 9 wells to test the Upper Mundu reservoir, which are likely to be undertaken during the current quarter.
